Night Sky is an epic planetarium show meets road movie. One night in the desert, a deaf girl and her hearing friend discover a portal leading to a timeless dimension where a dance marathon never ends. Night Sky’s parallel narratives compress Hollywood filmmaking with modernist abstraction, surround sound, silence, and animation to meditate on connection, endurance and searching. Musicians are invited to create live improvisational sound bath scores that accompany the ambient soundtrack.
Alison O'Daniel works with hearing and deaf actors and crews, engendering situations where communication is reconsidered and incoherence and misunderstandings become road maps that redraw the limits of communication. By confronting binaries where bodies are identified as either able or disabled, O'Daniel explores utopic possibilities for human interaction and offers new visions of the ways revelations are communicated. Architecture and objects become transmitters of previously inaccessible messages, shifting hearing into the body to be synesthetically felt without ears. O'Daniel creates odyssey adventures, sound-baths, sport/dance teams and magical films with live musical accompaniment.
